Certificate IV in Aeroskills (Institutional)

MEA40607 Avionics

MEA40707 Mechanical

MEA40807 Structures

ATAE Pty Ltd will conduct an institutional based Certificate IV in Aeroskills (Avionics), (Mechanical) and (Structures), commencing in January 2009. The course duration is twelve (12) months at the ATAE facility Archerfield. The Certificate IV in Aeroskills articulates with, and provides credit towards, the Aeroskills Training Package ‘trade’ qualifications at AQF Level IV.

In addition to the theoretical content of the course, the extensive workshop facilities at ATAE are utilised to complement theoretical examinations with practical workplace assessment. The practical based component concentrates on developing basic hand skills and continues to where students perform basic maintenance on aircraft and aircraft components.

The ‘work experience’ component which is built into the course program provides an exposure to the aviation community and also provides the students with an opportunity to display their skills and achievements whilst working on a project, (registered aircraft), under direct and routine supervision.

Participant’s Eligibility
“Participant’s Eligibility” identifies those students who are not eligible to receive training under the Certificate IV in Aeroskills for courses that are funded by the Department of Employment and Training (DET) under the Strategic Priority Purchasing Program. Eligibility excludes people who are:

a. enrolled in secondary school;

b. non-permanent residents of Australia (excluding Temporary Protection Visa Holders);

c. employees of the contracted Registered Training Organisation;

d. employees of government departments/agencies;

e. undertaking structured training that is part of an apprenticeship or traineeship; or

f. employees of a specific enterprise

Funding and Fees

ATAE is a registered training organisation and the content of this course provides the underpinning knowledge and skills theory behind the nationally accredited Certificate IV in Aeroskills (Avionics), (Mechanical) or (Structures) streams.

Fifteen (15) funded positions will be available along with ‘Fee for Service’ positions as required. The funding for the funded positions is provided by Department of Employment and Training (DET).

Selection

The selection process is extremely competitive. ATAE conducts aptitude testing and interviews approximately for the six months prior to course commencement. All applications received prior to testing are catalogued, and letters advising of testing dates are sent to applicants in due course.

The aptitude test, which all applicants are required to undertake is in the form of a Language, Literacy and Numeracy test. This test assists ATAE in identifying deficiency in those areas (Language, Literacy or Numeracy). The results of the test have no bearing on the selection process for the course. The test is composed interpretation of a graph, a comprehension exercise, some year ten maths (completing a table comprising fractions, decimals and percentages) addition, subtraction, multiplication division and ratios (no calculators to be used) and year ten Science.

The interview will involve a general discussion about the applicants manual skills experience, the applicant's interest in the Aviation Industry, Which area of the Aviation Industry is the applicant interested in with regard to future employment ?, Why is the applicant interested in this area ? and basic knowledge of aviation terms eg lift, gas turbine engine and density. The applicant will be rated from 1 (poor) to 5 (excellent) against the following areas:

a. Attitude

b. Appearance

c. Personality

d. Maturity

e. Knowledge of Aviation

f. Reason for application

Letters informing the applicant of the outcome of the selection process will be dispatched prior to the course commencement date. Any unsuccessful applicant is free to lodge an appeal against their non-selection with the training manager.

Training Commitment

All prospective students are reminded that the course duration is 12 months. This is an extensive program and one that will require a significant commitment from the students to complete the course. As places are limited and the subject material builds from one module to the next, it is not possible to replace a student once the course has started.

Therefore, positions that are granted for DET funded places are at the expense of someone else.

Completion

Upon successful completion, students will receive a Statement of Results for the underpinning knowledge and skills theory that was completed during the course.

If you are interested in applying for the Institutional Certificate IV in Aeroskills course please forward an application form to ATAE.
